Spring 2007Joking Apartby Alan Ayckbourn29th-31st March 2007. Over the course of twelve years in Joking Apart, we follow the ups and downs of several couples, with all the triumphs and tragedies of everyday life acutely observed and skilfully dramatised by Ayckbourn. Richard and Anthea are a frighteningly competent couple who have no idea of the havoc and misery that their success and beauty wreak on those around them. These include the new vicar Hugh and his wife Louise; Richard’s business partner Sven and his wife Olive; and friend of the family Brian, who has a string of different girlfriends throughout the play. Director Ronald Stevenson said: “Alan Ayckbourn’s plays are always popular because the humour, though bitter-sweet, really does reflect real life. We all know people who are just like the characters in this play and so we feel closely involved as their lives unfold over the twelve year period. On the surface, everyone is enjoying the social niceties of a tennis match, Bonfire Night and an eighteenth birthday party, but underneath, relationships are deteriorating and emotions are running high.” Joking Apart was on at 7.30 on 29th, 30th and 31st March at the Commemoration Hall, Huntingdon. Tickets cost £7 (£5 for concessions) on the Thursday and £8 (£6 concessions) on the Friday and Saturday. Flyer available here Programme Available here Rehearsal photographs here
